Usually there would be a floor manager to keep an eye on that and cue the presenter. Now in the stripped back BBCnews he may have had just an ear piece to cue him when he goes on air. That ear piece is fitted by a “ tech op”. That means a cheap tech monkey who swings between sound, camera, lighting and floor management specialities. When that ear piece fails the results are embarrassing.
