It's pretty hard to figure out what happened there really since each "side" has lied so heavily to spin this for political advantage. The biggest concern in my mind is how we no longer have a functioning journalism to investigate these kind of things.

As far as I can tell he used his political connections with his father to get business deals with implied geopolitical favors. He had a seriously drug problem and couldn't function at all. In what other world is this kind of person making business deals in Ukraine and China? It's certainly not because of his acumen.
So run of the mill political corruption and decadence seen from our politicians. The right says he's literally satan, and the left just mocks the right's accusations while ignoring the actual core issue. Just goes to show that the media is interested in keeping us all distracted with bullshit bickering rather than actually expose real corruption of their power.
