Happens all the time. I remember a mother who wanted her daughter to be a cheerleader. She went on the talkshow circuit a bitched her fool head off. The daughter only spoke when she was addressed directly.

If 500 shitty players tried out for JV soccer, they couldn't let all 500 play without building several more fields and hiring many more coaches. Not everyone can play, snowflake. Go play in a city league or practices a shitload so you get better.

Back when I was a teenager, this kid would have been harassed relentlessly over this. The teasing would be so bad for this momma's boy, that he would end up moving to a different school. Or he would start being home schooled by his mommy.
