It's too early to have all the facts. But nobody lets that stop them anymore, so I'm not gonna let that get in the way either.
It's an opportune time for me to hijack attention from a tragedy for my personal pet cause.

MCM Construction Management

That was the cause. Construction Management instead of a construction company. The difference is very important and lost on most. A construction management business employs salesmen, engineers, and bean counters. But nobody that actually has a working knowledge of construction.
They keep prices down by contracting out segments of the job, and they oversee the subcontractors. The subs are specialized labour, not trades.

They are able to undercut bids by proper construction outfits, and mostly avoid any liability or responsibility by pinning it on the sub-contractors. Subs routinely 'go out of business' only to reopen the next week with a new name and no more liability or warranty claims.

In the end, I blame the customer. Can't blame an unscrupulous businessman for doing what is legal, and he is expected to do. But you can blame the dumb-ass that accepts the lowest bid and then acts surprised when shit falls down.
Find the man who inked the contract and jail him. Then you'd see these types of failures less.
