maybe im just a sourpuss but i really have a hard time believing anything that comes out of the mouths of the same kind of hot chicks i grew up with. i certainly don't doubt their belief in what they say but it takes a helluva lot more than a pretty face to convince me. that being said, at least there aren't a hundred thousand troops in syria like if bush (aka cheney) were still president so i still have a hard time saying trump is the worst president of this century -yet-

The attitude towards the media from the white house has been incredibly disturbing imo. This is state run propaganda, there is no other way of looking at it.

absolutely but bbc, rt, al jazeera, the infinite list of no-namers with state support to spread their propaganda. there is no reason why the sitting most powerful man in the world shouldn't have his own bullshit news service. i wouldn't say its a good thing or something i completely agree with but he has as much or more right than anyone to try to directly push his ideas. everyone else simply struck first while presidents thought themselves too high and mighty to respond in kind. this is the information age - america's enemies have struck first and far harder than this could manage. there is no other way of looking at it.

y'know, we are different people capable of different feelings on subjects. don't presume to tell others that there are no other ways of looking at things. we are all capable of approximately the same.

I think the idea that it's that similar to NK is kind of hyperbolic. Because the biggest and most meaningful difference between the situations is that Americans and all western democracies have choices and differing viewpoints. While those in totalitarian societies don't.

When North Korean media reports that Kim Jong-Un is a great leader, and the United States and South Korea are on a mission to destroy and enslave the North Korean people, that's all they hear. There are no conflicting reports allowed. There are no other options for information. And then it gets repeated to them. Over, and over, and over, and over again, for decades. And then they can't help but believe it, because that's all they've heard, their entire life.

The former Soviet Union was the same - "Things are amazing here compared to the capitalist countries!" I'm sure many believed it, as evidenced by Boris Yeltsin's trip to a grocery store after her visited the Johnson Space Center.

But here in America, we still have choice. Yes, there is Trump News where they spread some amount of propaganda, and purport to be the "real news" (which is a dumb thing to say out loud; most news agencies probably want everyone to think they are the "best" news source, but they don't go around talking about it so blatantly), but there are options. You can flip over to CNN, MSNBC, or Fox News. You can go online to Bloomberg, Reuters, BBC, or wherever else you like. And you can get their takes, and their opinions, and their articles about whatever Trump News is talking about, or what else they don't talk about.

So I think there's a lot of overreaction about it. Yes, it's dumb, yes they framed it stupid ("This is the real news!", give me a break), but people are over-reacting. The world will continue on, and we are not under threat of falling into pure propaganda regimes (at least not yet).

I agree that it isn't on the same level as NK, but it doesn't make it any less bizarre that a world leader would start their own news source to combat negative media portrayal.

That Yeltsin article is great, really puts the Soviet Union into perspective.

I agree with that top line, PMYA, and really, it was all in the presentation.

Like if was called "Oval Office Updates" and then had a focus on "presenting the good things this administration has done in the past week", then it wouldn't be nearly as crazy. It's like OK, you'll hear all the bad stuff from other outlets (true or not), and then we want to present the good things we're trying to do; that at least comes across kind of honestly and reasonably.

But by presenting it as "Trump News" (everyone loves an egotist), suggesting all other news is fake, and then propping it up as a one-stop shop for all Trump-related news, and everything else is hooey - well everyone will see through that really quickly; except the rabid fans, of course, but that would be the same for anyone, not just Trump.
