The meeting in the Lower House was stopped at the beginning of the afternoon, after a man had jumped from the public gallery. He tried to commit suicide.

It is a 65-year-old man from Groenlo, confirms the police of The Hague. "The man had an object around his neck, which was tied to the stands", is stated in the statement. He was conscious when the care workers came and was checked in the hospital. Whether he is still there is not known.

A farewell letter from the man is going on social media. "Forgive me this deed, I have to do this to awaken the politics," he writes. He says in the letter for some time to argue for the decriminalization of cannabis. Debate

The incident happened when VVD MP Arno Rutte spoke in a debate about organized crime. There was a blow and people started screaming. MPs who saw it happen, have been struck.

Chamber President Arib is very shocked by the incident. "Of course it has a lot of impact if this happens," she says in a short reaction. "But luckily it goes well with the man." Play video 00:21 Great terror in the House of Representatives as man of public tribune falls

MP Rutte still feels a bit shaky. He initially thought that someone fell from the balustrade. "But it was a suicide attempt, you're scaring your wild," he says. "But the people around it are even more shocked, and I hope they are okay." Today there are no more debates in the House of Representatives.

It is not the first time that someone from the public gallery jumps in the House of Representatives. In 2005 an Englishman jumped off the balustrade and ended up next to the Kamerbankjes. The man, member of an action group for divorced fathers, broke both ankles.
