Is your normal clothing made out of swimsuit material? Have you ever commuted to work via boat?

Swimsuits are a sin in our potsmoking bucknekkid valhalla!

I have not commuted by boat to work per se, but it is a viable way of commuting for the northern islanders and in a few heavily urban areas. Rotterdam actually has watertaxi's which are faster to certain destinations then a cab. We do have a lot of river ferries for crossing's and we can always use the excuse "the bridge had to open" when we are late for anything.

Not surprising considering much of the area was formerly a part of the ocean.
As the saying goes:

"God created the earth but the Dutch built the Netherlands"

Ain't that the truth! Most of these endevaours where even privately funded projects and anyone could invest in the stock. Once a project was finished, new lands would be sold and dividends paid.

About 60% is still below sealevel (we didn't raise the land, just drained it), my area is at about -6m ( -19 ft). We get about as much rainfall as London along with the river inflow, so basically you are looking at a very extensive, active drainage system.
