This is a normal thing in NL.

Here are two motor police at 20:00

at the evening of the 4th may we remember our fallen from WW2 by a nationwide 2 minute silence at 20:00. The country literally stops and becomes silent. Flags hung at half mast.

Trains, Trams, busses etc stop and pulls over, Restaurants announce and ask guests for silence, pedestrains stop, cars park and step out, all TV channels either broadcast from a memorial site or go silent (even MTV and comedy central) and at the WW2 monuments there are big crowds of all ages and groups from society.

Then the day after on 5th may, we celebrate the capitulation of German forces in NL and celebrate our freedom. There are free music concerts with the big national musicians performing all over the country.

I'm pretty happy with the way we formed this. First you contemplate then you celebrate.

So what about the people who wanted to celebrate this event with pizza?
