[The following is in relation to the double axe-murders of Lizzie Borden in 1892. Context of Miss Borden, courtesy of Wikipedia: “Lizzie Andrew Borden (July 19, 1860 – June 1, 1927) was an American woman who garnered notoriety as the main suspect in the August 4, 1892, axe murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts. Borden was tried and acquitted of the murders.]

Doctor Bowen left the house a short time later in order to send a telegram to Emma Borden [Lizzie’s sister], informing her of the crime. Sadly, by the time he returned there was even worse news, for Bridget [their servant] and a neighbor, a Mrs Addie Churchill, had gone upstairs and discovered Abby Borden floating face-down in a pool of her own blood. Her head had nearly been separated from the rest of her body by a heavy blow to the neck while another blow had cut a huge flap of skin away from the back of her scalp. (Later it was conjectured that Abby Borden had died from the first blow she received, for although her wounds were extensive, there was very little blood splatter on either the walls of the furniture.)
