So I just looked them up and, honestly, if you're looking to populate your library by genre (or appearance), it's a really cheap way to populate your library fast as long as you don't care what authors or titles within the genre. Say, for example, you wanted to start with "sci-fi", you could get a really large selection for dirt cheap, have them shipped to you, go through and keep the ones you want (selling the ones you don't), you could have a large selection of something interesting to read quickly.

Or you could be an idiot with more money than sense and get a purely curated collection by series, author, etc. and pay like $3000 for the set. But they'll also all match and for some people, that matters. Think about it, do you really want half of Tolkien's books from maybe the 70s and half from after the movies were made so the format, design, size, paper, print, and everything else is mismatched? If you're dropping cash on books anyway and going for the whole collection, it can make a difference between looking at your shelf and being content and interested or just interested.

On top of it all, you're likely to not get vanity press books so that's a bonus.

And, I suppose, for some people books are just a decoration same as any art on the wall. It's once you start getting into larger amounts of disposable income that the decoration creator or style matters.

Interior designers have sources for remaindered books and books purchased in bulk from estate sales/second hand shops. Ikea also buys its books that way.

Designers are looking for that look though. I'm looking for a good read or 500.

You've read a lot more than I have. Most of my fiction favorites are Heinlein's teen books and the odd dectective book. The rest are child care and text books. I usually read random books from PG books. I've been looking at old military history books and books with insight into victorian society and mores, of late. I've always adored victorian fashion, and having watched some shows set in the period thought that it would be interesting to see if they were at all accurate.

PG also has a number of old periodicals.
