This raises some questions for me. How can they guarantee that the pests won't end up killing the plants they are supposed to be modifying? What sort of impact will it have on the predators of these insects? If researchers are finding that glyphosate is altering gut bacteria in bees, then who's to say that eating one of these insects won't harm their predators or something higher up the food chain? We're always going to be battling pests unless growing is occuring in a fully enclosed greenhouse where there is no chance for them to get in (like a hydroponic system). The idea does have some merit but I can see where it has the appearance of being a potential bioweapon.

I agree that it has that what-could-go-wrong feeling about it. Technologies like this have me wishing we could close Pandora's box.
