Not that I am making excuses for eddit, but who thought it was private or secure?
Sites that scrape eddit for user info are not hard to find, and have been around for a long time. Those are more of a privacy invasion than this.

Mostly public info being leaked isn't really a big deal.
The worst that could be happening for me is that someone is reading my old pms.

I never let such stuff bother me, though I was never a Redditor save for a week or two week flyby that proved to me I had no business there. There aren't any sites I frequent where I do anything I wouldn't admit anyway - LOL.

I was a regular on eddit long long ago, in the before times. It was a very different place then.
But I always considered everything to be public and insecure. Because I'm not stupid. Well, not that stupid.

So true. I never really did anything like Reddit or Voat, or whatever until after I retired and had mucho time on my hands, so I was late to all these games. Oh, I did the bulletin boards way back when, IRC, and even some chat game sites on rare occasions, but I've never been the paranoid type. Anything that's free ... is never really free, and most figure that out. So I don't worry about VPNs or Doxxing ... that kinda thing much. Anything I write, I'd say to your face if we were having a discussion. If someone doesn't like it, I could care - LOL.
