Yeah, if you watch any Mega Man run you'll see that, unless someone is playing safe or is going to damage boost somewhere. X is an irritating MM to run, because a few of the bosses have random patterns involving invincibility frames, where they can not be hit. The earlier games don't really have that issue, since their patterns are simpler and/or can be manipulated.

Damage boosting is the term for intentionally getting hit to get through obstacles while you have invincibility frames, or taking a hit to clear a gap you couldn't otherwise clear.
