I've found this to be an interesting topic since I read Ringworld by Larry Niven. His was a ring variation of a more primitive Dyson sphere of the time. It showed a lot of the function and problems that would be involved, while telling a great story.

Isaac Arthur actually has a whole episode dedicated to Ringworlds, in which I believe he pays some homage to that book.
