I'm so close to ditching windows whenever I build my new PC. Unfortunately Ubuntu 18.04 was more of a devolution than an evolution, so I'm still on the fence.

Linux Mint, IMO, is better than Ubuntu. It's also beats Windows for speed and finding devices. Microsoft said years ago that large corporations are where their focus would be, and so it is, at the expense of small and medium businesses and consumer privacy.

I'll have to give Mint a try, haven't tried it yet. I should have enough space to partition my boot drive to give it a go this weekend

Unfortunately it no longer matters if you have an offline account or not. Microsoft is going to mine your data no matter what you do. They have said so and network sniffers have confirmed it. Most people are fine with it, so why wouldn't they?
