Grew up roughly 10 miles from one, some serious incompetents running things too.

Not a positive thing, but preferable to being as close to a coal-fired power station.

Agree. Coal kills far more and causes far more health problems. It even causes more radioactivity ironically.

I'm not sure why environmentalists are so anti nuclear. The world would be a much better place if we went all into nuclear for energy generation 30 years ago. Maybe coal just has a better marketing/lobbying department and nuclear causes visible and scary problems while coal's are diffuse and just background statistical deaths?

I used to go to a small town about an hour away that had a nuclear power plant to play water polo matches. It felt kind of surreal the first couple times because the indoor pool was a fully windowed room and you had a direct view of the power plant. I worked for a steel company before so I'm accustomed to really dirty areas, but everything there felt so clean. The plant raised so much income that they literally gifted a high school to the city.

So yeah, I'd live there.

Damn shame they pump the power down to the urban center thirty miles away before it comes back.
