Where these the rpg books where you had a sheet, pencil, dice and had to follow the reference numbers on choices?

Yep. There were several lines, but the British Fighting Fantasy line by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone was the most popular and most sold one.

I had 6 of them when I was young but that was a long time ago, and i have no clue to their names or publisher.

Pre-gameboy time was pretty cool!

I remember this.

I have been trying to remember what they were called, I had a few of them whenI was a kid. Not sure if I ever got through one of them without dying in some bullshit/ridiculous way.

They were purposefully designed that deadly to squeeze more potential gaming time out of the slim books. Just like vidya games back then were nintendo hard to make up for how short they were.
