This is my mental thought process with triples and many raising opportunities:
when there’s a pair on the flop don’t fold right away.
Consider this first:
Example the flop has: 8s.8c.3d
if they call, you need to be thinking this:
they either have: 1. the nuts (8.8.8.) 2. a pair (the 3. or their pocket pair) 3. nothing (this is what you're looking for)
if they raise. they either have :
pair of their own (9.9./10.10. are common here)
the triples (A.8./k.8 etcetera) sometimes still suited going for the flush maybe and lucked out
a higher set of cards (A.k./A.Q./A.J./K.Q./K.J./K.10. and the list goes on)
a higher card than the board (A6 etc...)
complete bluff (attack this mofo)
now. The objective is to see the turn, raise or do what you have to do. Lose 5-20% of chips any more is a wasted op.
if they raise they either have:
higher cards
the nuts because there's a flush or straight posibility (8h.6s. and they're getting scared)
a lower pair (getting scared and afraid of losing control)
a higher pair (hoping you have the 3.)
higher cards
now start the whole process over from here and do it every time you see a pair on the flop and win 1/3 of those battles.
