I am not a fan of visual novels. I have only ever "played" Steins Gate before. There are no choices whatsoever in it, as it is based on the anime, so it really can't be considered a game because there is no interaction beyond checking your text messages occasionally. Truthfully, the storyline is fairly interesting, but it is so long I never finished it. I must have 15 hours in that fucker and I still don't know what's going on, where the story is going or how far away the end is.

However. I was browsing through Steam the other day and saw something that caught my eye. A North Korean themed adult visual novel called "Stay! Stay! Democratic People's Republic of Korea". The description was so ridiculous that I immediately got it. I haven't played it yet though, that will be in another post, I'm saving that goldmine.

Instead, I came across two others floating around on the pirate bay and decided to play those first.

Tomboys Need Love Too

I can't believe I played this shit but here we go. There are choices in this game. Essentially, there are two:

  • Bang your childhood friend
  • Bang random slut in your class who you spend the entire game talking about to your childhood friend

I say there are two choices, but really there is only one, because the game punishes you endlessly if you choose to pursue random slut. Every scene that involves random slut is annoying or mildly disturbing, even if you choose all the options that you think will make her go away. In total, there are maybe 5 different bits of music that loop every minute or so in the entire game. If you're going for the good ending, you're in for a solid 4-5 hours of listening to these loops. On top of that, there are no animations at all in the game. You get about 8-10 backgrounds during the entire thing, and there are only 5 characters in the game. You only really see three though (yourself, childhood friend and random slut). On the plus side, it is easy to get all the endings once you've finished the game, because there aren't many choices and you can skip through the entire game in 2-3 mins if you've already played it.

Perhaps the thing that irritates me most about this game is they couldn't even be bothered to draw each character from scratch. Even though there are only a few characters, they recycled parts of their faces, and they all have the same 5-6 facial expressions, so even if you get to the lewd bits, it just looks like you're screwing your sister or something because everyone looks identical.

...Which brings me to the other game

Love Ribbon

This is a game in which you literally screw your sister. The basic premise is you're going to a new school and get an apartment. Then your dad calls you and tells you you have a sister which you somehow didn't know about for x amount of years who will be staying with you.

Honestly, it's much better than the other one, but still not great. There is more music, but not a huge amount. Same with backgrounds. Although the game isn't fully animated, there are two little animated parts. Both of them involve graphic incest. It is at least a plus over the other game, and it is somehow less weird to bang your actual sister rather than someone who looks like they could be your sister.

Apparently there are two endings. I played the good ending, so I can't imagine what the bad one is like. The main issue with this game is it is far too sad. After the credits roll, you get an extra sex scene, but I was so depressed I told my sister to stop licking my butthole.

Hopefully the next two will be better.

Steins Gate was a damn good anime but the game sounds like shit. Love Ribbon I should check out for...reasons.

I'm probably being unfair with both of them. I approached Steins Gate by playing it as though I would be able to finish it in a couple of sittings and just wore myself out. Now it has been so long I can't remember the story, so I would need to replay parts of it. At least it has voice acting and good art/music in it.

Love Ribbon is alright. It is fairly short and has a surprisingly ok storyline considering the premise. Although if you are going to play it, right click and save in a new slot before every choice you make. I just looked it up and there is only once choice that affects the storyline, so you will probably want to go back and change it if you get the bad ending.
