On my first plane ride, you were expected to dress in nice (Sunday go to meetin') clothes, walk onto the tarmac, climb the stairs, and sit where you wanted. Smoke 'em if you got 'em, flip-top ashtrays in the armrest.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em

It wasn't even a question. Expecting people to go the duration of the flight without a cigarette would have been cruel.

flip-top ashtrays

Everything had ashtrays then. I miss the ashtrays in the grocery store isles the most.

I remember my first time on an airplane.
It was a commercial flight and everyone aboard was excited or terrified. I loved it and decided then that I had to become a pilot.

It was a significant and fun experience then. Now it's just a burden.
Interesting how our perspective changes with time.
