I hear skunks make actually good pets, if you get them de-scented young. My aunt lived with one a long while back.
I've also heard this and that you don't need to remove the scent gland if they are trained.
I'm not sure how true that is though. I checked wikipedia and while it agrees they can make good pets, it doesn't really say much about the smell, and I'm too lazy to put any real effort into it.
Wild ones can sometimes be docile. I had a cat that made friends with a skunk. The skunk would tolerate me being around, but never let me get close. Eventually the skunk was relaxed in my presence, and I think it may have fallen in love with my cat. Pepe? But I never pushed my luck by getting close. I've heard of other people or dogs getting sprayed when they accidentally surprise a skunk. Typically when I find myself close to one, I will back away slowly. Not worth the risk.
I want to cuddle the stink out of that thing!
