It's a rare sight to actually see media companies held accountable for completely slanderous and reporting. Congrats Mr. Sandmann.

Settling a lawsuit doesn't necessarily mean they paid a settlement. The amount is undisclosed and could be anywhere from $0-$850,000,000.

In reality whatever it is would be much closer to $0.

I certainly don't doubt that the settlement would be far lower than $250 million, probably still multiple million though given that they really fucked up and slandered a minor in national media. I'm not sure where the lawsuits were filed, but they could drag them through the Kentucky courts for a long time if they did not settle because that state supposedly has very strict laws about treatment of minors in the media.
