IIRC steel from WW2 shipwrecks is used to make radiation-sensitive devices. Fallout from nuclear testing contaminates anything produced today. WW2 wrecks are the largest source of uncontaminated metal.

This is starting to become a big diplomatic issue between NL and Indonesia. The shipwrecks are considered sailors graves, so it's a bit of a delicate thing in the Netherlands.
