Having spent the last 2 years or so working in Midtown, a 7.6% drop makes complete sense. That's roughly 1 out of every 12 rides, or for most people 1 one-way trip a week if commuting daily. Which makes a bit of sense.

Normal day, you ride bus in, you take bus back to Jersey or LI or SI. If you are in Queens or Brooklyn, you take the train anyways. One night you work late, say 8 or 9 (or you hit Happy Hour, or have a business dinner, or hit a Knicks or Mets game or a show.) Instead of hoofing it 10 blocks to the station, and then riding the bus, you say, "meh, what's $30 going to kill me?" and you order an Uber so you can sit comfortably and quietly in the backseat and pass out rest a bit on the way home.
