Anecdotal add=on:

I was having a pretty stressful time, coupled with the condition that caused me to lose an eye, and the Doctor prescribed me anti-anxiety pills to take daily.

After 6 months, I was pretty much a zombie. Didn't care about anything either way. Father in law died? Huh, too bad. Friend diagnosed with rare cancer? Neat. Got a big promotion? So what.

I was just trudging through life, not enjoying, not caring. It took a good 6 months to start having feelings either way, but I don't think my brain ever recovered. I really don't like that the preferred solution to 99% of medical problems to be "take moar drugs."

chemical drugs

Drugs are chemicals.

Good point!!!

I guess what I was going for was that there are herbal medicines (drugs!) that can have similar effects as these chemicals (drugs!), albeit usually less efficacious. For example, if I can't sleep, I could take a sleeping pill like Ambien, or I could take Melatonin or Valerian root.

Thanks for pointing out my redundancy! I'll chalk it up to a DERP moment on my part!

I understand your point although herbal medicines contain chemicals.

What I was referring to is the poorly written clickbait churned out by naturalnews.com.

Then there is that!

I couldn't find the link to the study itself that wasn't a PDF, and I don't link to PDFs.
