Syria is even an one of the few official allies* of the Russians and the only foreign country to have an official russian Naval and Russian airbase. (especially the naval base carries strategic importance as it offers direct acces to the mediteranian. As long as Isreal is there and under US's wing, Russia will never give up Syria.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens next.
The only guarantee I can make is that people are not done killing yet. The Kurds are holding their lands, and for the first time, are better armed and trained than their neighbors. The only thing that all the other sides can agree on is that they don't want the Kurds to have a country.
Then there's the US question. Are they going home now? Not a chance.
Is Russia going home now? Nope, Syria is still in jeopardy. The Russians will be there as long as the Americans are there.
