TLJ was stinking pile of poo, and I still believe that, but judging Solo on it's own merits I thought it was an enjoyable film.

*** Spoilers Below ***

The Lando / L3 thing was weird, although that is neat how L3 is part of the Falcon now.

Linking the underworld to Maul is amazing. What an awesome way to give Clone Wars some love. It also sets us up for more of the story line, which I'm very interested to see.

The humor wasn't out of place like in TLJ. The theme, pace, and plot were all much better constructed than TLJ, over all a much better film in terms of objective cinema criteria.

Character wise it didn't seem right for Han to walk away with such a small cut of the action. He didn't seem jaded enough, especially since he was left by Qi'ra. I guess they are trying to play up the Han is really just a nice guy underneath it all. For me it didn't work.

I didn't feel like there was a SJW message being pushed. Maybe the comment from L3 about equal rights, but w/e, that wasn't a big deal to me.

Perhaps part of the reason I liked it was my expectations could not have possibly been lower, but I did like it.

I think everyone is still suffering from PTSD from the TLJ, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It is hard to put into words how bad it was. Haven't seen Solo yet, but sounds like it was not bad, but not great. I was going to skip it on principle, but might check it out next week.

Totally agree, I had an opportunity to see it at no cost, so I did. I think fans are right to take out TLJ frustrations by avoiding it during the opening weekend. I wonder if Disney will comprehend the message.

My quips about it:

  • L3 was an insufferable character. My vote for worst character in the entire Star Wars franchise, even below Jar Jar.
  • If you were expecting Harrison Ford's Han Solo, then you'll be disappointed.
  • The pacing of the film just didn't sit with me. The action sequences were pretty unsatisfying. They went 0 to High Action Moment in seconds and felt rushed to ensure no character development could occur during those moments

On the flip side, the Maul part was a really good touch as you mentioned. They handled Chewie's character very well.

I haven't seen a Star Wars movie since Force Awakens so my expectations were pretty low, but I came close to falling asleep during Solo

At least the exposure to L3 was short.

True.

I did find it annoying that they had to force some LGBT politics on Lando though. I forgot about that

Right, but as the article states.

But there's nothing overt about Lando's sexuality in the film; nothing romantic goes on between him and any human or droid.

You really don't pick up on it in the film. It's not heavy handed.

It is a shame they feel the need to push this outside of the movie.

It wasn’t full of liberal/jewish propaganda?

I’d be shocked if that were the case. Just saw deadpool 2. Moral of the story was white people are evil boring rapists.

Others might feel so, but they might be the type who find that in everything. Myself, I did not find this to be the case.

I didn't even finish the first Deadpool movie, it wasn't my thing, no interest in seeing the second.

Saw the Solo movie.

Didn’t like the feminist robot, didn’t understand why Lando was getting such a major role other than to over use the token black guy.

The whole thing with him being a sex god plays on the sjw brainwashing that blacks are better at sex.

Didn’t understand the girlfriend suddenly being a situ apprentice; other then to milk another sequel and have a courageous woman role. Same goes for the halfbreed 12 year old leading the marauders.

Last but not least; the plot was weak. Why were the marauders chasing/killing criminals who were undermining the empire? Enemy of my enemy is my friend; or at least not the person you should be hunting down to the ends of the universe.

End rant.
