It would avoid the pitfalls of new technology and messy world wars and open up a far greater range of possibilities if we don't have super major events and predictable scripting that have to happen to have a recognizable world. The game would start in one of the most exciting eras of diplomacy ever in the rush for communist or capitalist allies. I'm sure civil or regional wars would occur but as long as the USA and USSR are properly run (probably by mods), ww3/nuclear war could be averted. Due to the number of Phukers required, we could focus on only Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, or maybe Europe. Also, significantly more accurate information can be found about countries post ww2 than for 1900-1914.

I think this is vastly more conducive to the manner in which Modern Powers has been played and the medium we are playing it on than a pre-ww1 start.
