It's inevitable with the culture there. Criticize, go against the circlejerk, or be perceived/characterized as going against the grain and you get ostracized, demonized, and shunned. Over time, as the culture gets more insular and extreme, people who previously accepted things say, "hang on, that's a bit extreme," and get pushed out.
