Also because there's no looking for it where it's likely to be, out of fear of contamination, like on Mars.

If I recall we've already found a few microbes or something on Mars, or at least evidence or fossils for it.

Mars isn't a very likely place for intelligent life anyway, it's just the closest place to us that isn't a completely uninhabitable hellscape (like, 90% instead of 100%).

They found evidence there likely were some microbes there sometime. But they won't go to the areas where they could find alive ones, to avoid contamination. Spacecrafts are already throughly cleansed of every life, but the risk of a microbe surviving that and travel through space is considered too high.
