I've never heard of Exploding Head Syndrome, but it happens to me sometimes--just happened on Sunday, in fact. It's not often enough to be really disruptive, but it happens far enough apart that it startles the shit out of me. Just as I'm almost asleep there will be a loud bang. It's like those miniature dreams as you're just falling asleep where you fall off a bike or a cliff or something and wake up as you hit the ground.

I also get sleep paralysis, but without hallucinations thankfully. I've gotten used to it at this point, I know when it happens I need to stay calm and go back to sleep... I'll wake up soon after with full movement ability and I can gather my senses enough to resume sleep. The first time it happened I was laying in bed facing my wife. I tried to move, couldn't and started to yell for her... nothing. I yelled progressively harder until I finally heard a slight, very quiet moan--it was me. I fell back asleep and all was well, but it shook me.
