I haven't landed one myself but I just got a new motor for my boat today and I'll be giving it an honest effort this summer once I buy a muskie pole... Damn near need steel line for them they're such feisty strong fish.
Funny enough I've never targeted them, those 2 times I was fishing for walleye. I usually target walleye, bass, or catfish but other fish are attracted to the same bait, too.
Having a good working motor is probably the biggest part of fishing off of the banks. I've spent a lot of my fishing time working around motor issues.
I have a 14 foot aluminum (grandpa left it to me) and I just got a 4 HP Mercury (I used to row the fucker around lol try trawling that way! it's nothing fancy but it'll get me where I need to be... I'm attaching two swivel seats just need to get out my hammer drill and buy a bit.. I'll post some pics sometime once I've got it all together...
The Muskie is my white whale. I've gotten two large ones to the boat, seen them with my eyes, but lost them before I could get them in the boat. One spit the hook while I watched, the other's tooth caught the line and cut it--again, while I watched.
