In Sparta marriage was an enforced institution, not only were single men not allowed to attend Sparta's cool naked parties but they also were required to do the following:

“moreover, he imposed certain penalties on unmarried men. They were excluded from the festival of gymnopaedia, in honor of Athene; and the magistrates ordered them during winter to walk naked round the market place, while doing so to sing a song written against themselves”
