Rhode Island Senator Theodore F. Green had the reputation of attending all the cocktail parties he could in Washington. At one Washington party a woman asked of him: “Senator Green, how many cocktail parties have you been to this evening?”
”This is my fourth,” said Green, and pulled a little notebook out of his pocket and began leafing through it.
”Are you checking to see where you’re going to next?” she asked curiously.
”No,” he replied. “I’m checking to see where I am now.”
