[The following is taken from a memoir of Irmgard A. Hunt, who grew up in the mountains under Hitler’s Eagles Nest during the Second World War.]

That night Tante Susi, ever suspicious of the minister of propaganda’s claims, told the joke of the old woman who asked to see a globe and then asked to be shown Germany on it. Then she asked to see the United Kingdom, Russia, the United States, and all the other countries we were fighting.

She looked at them thoughtfully and inquired, “Has anyone ever shown this globe to Hitler?”
