The Virginia Senator [Claude Swanson] could unwind a lengthy banquet speech. One night he labored far beyond his allotted time. As he was leaving the hall an elderly woman shook his hand. Swanson responded by asking her how she liked the speech.
”I liked it fine,” she said, “but it seems to me you missed several excellent opportunities.”
”Several excellent opportunities for what?” asked Swanson.
”To quit,” snapped the old lady.
