In his book about J. Edgar Hoover, No Left Turns, author Joseph L. Schlott, an ex-FBI agent, writes about Hoover’s idiosyncrasies.

Once he was involved in an auto collision when his car made a left turn and he was sitting behind the driver. After that Hoover instructed the FBI to plan routes with no left turns. Once the author of the book had to plot a trip from Dallas to Austin with a special map showing no left turns.

Hoover obviously went to great lengths to prove he was not a leftist.
