When Helen Hayes and her husband attended the premiere of The Sin of Madelon Claudet (1931), in which she starred, they were so disappointed in her performance (though it won her an Oscar) that they emitted one groan after another as the picture proceeded. Finally someone sitting behind them leaned forward and threatened to have them thrown out of the place if they didn’t shut up.
