Ethereal Loretta Young and rough-and-ready Robert Mitchum had their differences on the set of Rachel and the Stranger (1948). When making films Loretta always brought a collection cup to which company members were expected to contribute if they swore. A “hell” cost twenty-five cents, “goddamn” fifty cents, and so on, and the money was donated to a home for unwed mothers.

Annoyed during a scene, Mitchum rammed a $5 bill into the cup before letting loose a blast of expletives.
