I saw Checkpoint Charlie in the summer of 1989. Then I saw it again during New Years of the same year when the wall fell. We drank, we sang and celebrated. One of the greatest events I've ever seen firsthand. There were a million people at the Brandenburg Gate. In the morning my friends and I started knocking down whole sections of the wall before getting chased off by the East German Border Guards. They were smiling.

Sounds like a great historical event to be a part of. Cool!

It really was. I wish my friends and I had thought to take pictures. We were just drunk 22 year olds and didn't understand what we were living through.

On the plus side I have 60 pounds of asbestos-ridden concrete... that I can't prove came from the wall.

Oh well, it's worth something to me.

That’s one smart son of a bitch. I wonder what changes were made after he did it.

It stood right out at me because I had that exact car (or a reasonable facsimile - LOL) ... an Austin Healey Sprite ... in my early twenties. It is amazing what he did and I bet they made to changes after, for sure.

They put vertical bars on the underside of the barrier.
