TheBuddha Approves #3: How do Guitar Pickups Work? – Play Guitar

Let's see... I disclose some biases/gifts, and then approve of a company that sells music equipment. I then decided to not tell you about how guitar pickups work. Instead, I found a couple of other people who explain it pretty well - and approve of their content. I link to a third site, which is probably more interesting to the average guitarist that's concerned about pickups. I then linked to a scholarly work about the science of stringed instruments. It's a giant PDF, but a pretty nice book. I've read (most of) it and find myself flipping through it every so often. I was able to find it online and in PDF format, but I still provided the link for people to buy it (should they want a physical copy).
