I don't read Chinese.

It's also pretty interesting the prisoners know how much money the prison gets from a company. I doubt I could find any Americans in a private prison that are so versed on the bottom line. I highly doubt I could find many guards that know the administrative details of labor deals.

Meh; there'll be rumors. I have no reason to doubt the prisoners would have a number; the only real question is whether the number is accurate. And frankly the profit margin on slavish labor is not really the important detail.

I accept the fact that what another nation does is not my responsibility and elect politicians I least suspect will go to war over false moral grounds so they can profit. I didn't care one way or another about Nike's Kaepernick stunt. I bought new shorts b/c they're comfortable and cheap despite Nike's reputation of exploiting 3rd world labor. Pretending to give a shit about one black guy doesn't erase the many thousands they've exploited. And yet at the end of the day... w/o that exploitation there would be no jobs at all. It's a global economy. There will be winners and there will be losers. This strikes me as a game of "which prison is worst". Our own country exploits prisoners w/ private run prisons. We should focus on maintaining our own yard before criticizing the neighbor for not cutting his grass.

the old bible maxim (Matthew 7:4 etc)

How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while there is still a beam in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6 Do not give dogs what is holy; do not throw your pearls before swine. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.…

and yet you can improve your compassion for your fellow human, at least according to traditional values

Book also says homosexuality is a sin but in a secular society we temper our judgement for the greater good. You wanna achieve meaningful change in China then you should be the first to enlist when shit hit's the fan. Even then 9/10 times in modern warfare shit's only likely get worse in the years afterwards. I thoroughly believe in compassion for my fellow man but won't be a hypocrite and pass judgement until my own house is in order. We do the same shit to our prisoners. Oh wait... we pay them 10 cents an hour so they can buy processed junk food from the commissary. We're so much better. The failure in idealism is they see the finish line while failing to realize it's one step at a time to cross. Instead of fighting for something that can actually be accomplished they focus on the end result and see any progress as failure. Can we do better? You're damn right we can but people have to be willing to put in the work. Focusing on grand ideals but not putting in the daily grind to get there accomplishes nothing. When a fat person wants to lose weight they can either put in the work everyday to get skinny or throw their hands in the air and declare themselves sexy. That's the way "racial" debate in this country is headed as well. Tolerance of the intolerant is not a virtue. I would never hate a secular muslim in a western society. (also islam isn't a race but words are more about assigning defamation than definition atm) I'm not going to put on a set of blinders and consider them all to be culturally equal. When your religion hasn't had a truly meaningful reformation and focuses on gays, jews, infidels Im gonna say that overall it's a shit set of beliefs. Is it bigotry? Not really. I feel the same about fundamentalists in any religion. The problem is Islam has the most of them.

You really should know you can't bible study me. I'm the scariest kind of conservative. One that is agnostic, secular, and rejects all such arguments regardless of the religion. OMG I also volunteer w/ a local church. I'm not some smug atheist reveling in my belief in nothing. One day I hope you'll understand Trump was a 3rd party candidate that gamed the system. Never before has a candidate self funded and received so much resistance from "his party". It's just possible I liked him when he ran on the "reform party" platform.
