It's a challenge and their purpose in life seems to be finding weird places. You have to "ferret-proof" everywhere they can (in)conceivably get to using your imagination and experience. Their tenacity and naive bravery make it difficult.
Also, what if someone enters your place when the ferrets are out, like a landlord, family member or emergency personnel? You could be involved in an accident or have a leak. Also, they could become trapped w/out food or water.
Mine have free roam unless I'm away more than 500 miles or longer than 48 hours.
