duh. The stability of their society depends on delivering rapid economic growth so that nobody rises up against the fragile society due to unrest, censorship, pollution, unafforable housing, corruption, etc. And that economy is only possible if countries buy their crappy exports. They have far more to lose than we do since they export far more than we do. Game theory says they will be the first to the negotiating table, but of course you wouldn't hear that from mainstream economists.

Someone might cite Tiananmen Square as evidence that could China has an upper hand in this situation. They may be more willing to risk public outcry due to the trade war.
