Thanks to everyone who played in this game, I had a lot of fun. This thread is to be used for all discussion about the game itself - from what you think worked and didn't, to what you might have done differently or better, and how you think everyone handled themselves. The final results were as follows:

The final map.

England (@TheRedArmy)

  • Solo victory, Fall 1910, 18 Supply Centers

France (@Fluf)

  • Defeated Fall 1910

Germany (@Boukert)

  • Defeated Fall 1905

Italy (@Jidlaph)

  • Survived to the end, 3 Supply Centers

Austria (@Redviiper)

  • Defeated Fall 1906

Russia (@Skyrock)

  • Survived to the end, 6 Supply Centers

Turkey (@PMYA)

  • Survived to the end, 7 Supply Centers

Gamemaster (@TheRedArmy)

  • Cheated 0 times :p

Thanks to all of you for your time and effort this game, and I hope you all consider playing again in the future.

I came under pressure early when Austria and Turkey ganged up on me. Austria played very defensively while it was around and eventually CDed, so I could hold out for a long while, but couldn’t pay enough attention to the Scandinavian theatre to prevent England from winning the Western Triangle early.

In hindsight I should have unleashed the Juggernaut as soon as Austria fell into disorder, although I’m not sure if @PMYA would have played along without the overwhelming threat of a runaway England, and if the rest of the powers wouldn’t have ganged up on me as soon as they realized that the most dreaded alliance in Dippy has been formed.

Personally I'll take a Juggernaut over a triple any day. But it is scary to face, and God help you if you're Germany or Italy trying to galvanize the other powers without getting stabbed into oblivion.

Yeah Austria did do very well defensively early, and having 5 centers a couple years in was definitely a solid position. I've debated a bit back and forth on whether Austria continuing to survive and thrive was better for me or not. It's difficult to say without know what would have gone on further.

I'm not sure if I was aware of the Juggernaut until 1907 or so, and my path was basically set at that point, so it didn't make much difference to me.

GG scumbags!

I was polite enough to hold up my Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact until Germany was a dead man walking.

I was aware that you would probably care more for German success than English ones, (which became doubly clear when you supported something of his, I forget what) which is why I offered Norway to you in trade. You took it a bit sooner than I wanted (I was hoping to bounce you out at some point, or maybe just "borrow" Sweden simultaneously or something like that), but the deal seemed to pay off in the end.

I was probably a bit too wheely-and-dealy this game, as I eventually made deals of some kind with 3 powers that resulted in actual moves being done to that effect. But I think the cease-fire with you, Skyrock, after I had stabbed you was a good call - I was completely out of position for actually attacking you on any level, and if Austria/Turkey had still been around, you would have naturally needed to focus all your energy on that. So a quick peace while you handle that and I handle France was a good idea. But then Austria dropped, and now your south was basically secure, so you could afford to move against me.

I honestly didn't have a preference for either. All I wanted was to have both Germany and England out of my hair in the early game, and see their conflict running unresolved for as long as possible. Whoever would would have a much stronger claim on Scandinavia and be a threat to me.

Haha. You did well to hold out as long as you did, and you got the strange play from Austria as well, which was surprising. I'm curious what happened between you and France (@Fluf) to make him suddenly decide that helping me onto the mainland was a better course of action. Was there some early deal that went bad between you two or something?

i tried to find a reason to not work with germany (@boukert) because i intended on holding you at bay with russia (@skyrock) but in retrospect that wasn't a wise move since you were far more experienced and knew what you were doing. if you were a weaker player or i far stronger, i'd stand by that move every time but bouk was right in ripping me for it.

the mistake that killed the game, though, was pulling my fleet off the iberian peninsula. i couldn't get a peep out of italy (@jidlaph) even though i really wanted to work with him but i guess he (reasonably) didn't believe me so i hoped i could get both tunisia and munich before the charade of working together with you would end.

Sometimes I know what I'm doing. I made some foolish plays more than once this game. But even without all that, the strategy is not a bad one if you could count on Russian support. The biggest issue was likely the second build in 1901. If I don't convoy onto Belgium, that army probably ends up just sitting in England as I support myself into Norway. Then I get a third fleet, but have no good expansion options next. At the same time, it becomes hard to believe that you would work with me at all in this case, so now you're likely taking a more stand-offish position to me in talks. This leaves me in something of limbo, where I don't really want to go after Russia, don't have support if I go after Germany, and your fleet in Iberia, well-positioned, like staying at home in Brest or Mao, makes attacking you also untenable. So I think I would almost be an Italy of the north, where there's just no good options for expansion.

And yeah, it's just hard to avoid getting stabbed by England as France unless you leave a couple units in the back as a defense force. So with everything thrown into Germany, it just kind of opens up once fleets start moving south for England.
