I've known a few "mobsters" like this guy. All of them so proud of their principles but would literally carve someone up who got in their way or looked at them funny. The media romanticises them to sell a few clicks or movie tickets but most of them are rotten to the core and there's not a lot to admire at all.

The "code" sounds admirable, but most likely never existed.

From what I could gather is mostly just fear of someone stronger than them or more capable of putting hurt on them. As soon as someone loses that leverage they will be turned into the cops to eliminate them as competition.

In 1931, Franzese was “straightened out,” or inducted into the mob , when he was just 14, his son John said. But it wasn’t announced until two years later.

As a history nerd it's really pretty amazing to think that there is a living history of the 1930's mob out there. I mean first off, surviving the mob life, the great depression, WW2, and everything after.. Well that's pretty unique.
