While listening to the the Indian's broadcaster today, he was also saying he was fired. I guess you can take it however you want. His contract was up and he wasn't offered a new one.

From what I read the other day, it's not like this was a surprising outcome. I think Maddon was at peace with not coming back and told Epstein as much during their meeting.

Right, I think anytime you don't extend a manager's contract prior to the end of the season, this is the expected result. Usually the extension would happen prior to the start of the season, it sends a message to players that this guy isn't going anywhere.

I don't follow the NL closely enough to know if there was more drama, but right, the guy got you a world series and is generally considered one of the better managers in the game. I'm sure he will not have a problem finding work.
