This seems crazy given that it's a national league team. Is he really going to be running down a lot of balls in the outfield in his late 30s? I could understand more if they could DH him. Although by the time this contract is halfway up, the NL might have the DH.

The 13 years spreads it out for the team and makes it seem sort of reasonable, compared to expectations of what Harper/Boras wanted and what Machado received.

Also no opt outs. I guess he's OK with being in Philly.

I think they want 8 years of production and the rest is business expense for bringing that guy to your team.

Teams know they are eating the back end of these contracts, but it's nuts to think that after 10 years, it might not even be worth keeping him on the 25 man roster.
