Obligatory "Baseball is dying! Change ALL the rules!" article for the summer. Surprisingly NOT written by Craig Calcaterra!

The game is simply is void of action, with players striking out, walking or hitting home runs in 34% of their plate appearances. So, for more than one-third of every game, there’s not a fielder involved in the action.

Bitches love the long ball.

I never heard anyone say, "Wow, too many home runs, it's just not exciting", or "Gee, this game could have been great, if only there were a couple more ground outs instead of strikeouts".

Some players, such as Washington Nationals All-Star outfielder Bryce Harper, are suggesting the games be reduced to seven innings.

Only until we get our bullpen sorted out. Then back to 9 please.

Commissioner Rob Manfred believes a pitch clock would be the magical elixir. Perhaps it wouldn’t bring any further excitement into the game, but it at least would reduce the time of boredom.

Is Bob Nightengale even a baseball fan?

because with the NFL dominating the sports landscape

The NFL ratings have been falling off a cliff. Does this guy live under a rock?

Don't even get me started on the NBA. Basket Ball is the most boring sport ever imo, I'd rather watch golf or tennis.

Astros are currently leading the MLBs with 74 double plays in 75 games.

Putting the ball in play is not always the best option, especially when you hit the ball hard and have players on base all the time.

However, they averaged 2 GIDPs a game during their 12 game winning streak, so now I'm not sure it really matters if you are hitting .300+!

I'm torn on Basketball - I played it SO much as a kid, young adult that it is sort of stuck on me. Hours a day for 15 years sort of gets it into your blood. I do not watch anything but NCAA tournament 1st and 2nd rounds. And then I watch the local NBA team because it is something to follow. Once they are eliminated from playoffs, I stop watching, whereas I can watch any baseball game and get SOME enjoyment out of it. I can watch Trout bat, or MadBum pitch, or Harper whiff 16 times in a row, followed by a 4 HR game, something interesting is always going on.
