I was 21 and I watched it. It was very satisfying to see us do something so impressive, something President Kennedy told the world we were going to do. Then by god we did it, and just like he said, before the end of the decade. It was a reaffirmation of American power and engineering excellence, and it was a giant middle finger to the Soviets.

I was with my family watching the Atomic Cup hydroplane races. I still remember it being announced on the loud speakers.

I was ... saw it live in all it's black and white glory. I was seventeen and a HS kid. The whole family huddled around the TV, just like in the movies.

Edit: @chmod - great question and since I don't think you're there - I stole for /s/OldPoalrBears on Poal. Gave ya credit though in comments - LOL. Sorry for thievery. Link

I was a toddler. It was boring. I wanted aliens to jump out of the craters, or something ... anything. Everyone sounded so excited but watching the guys just bouncing around for over two hours was boring. The landing was kind of tense but after that, nothing.

I remember it well. 6 year old me glued to the big ol' black and white TV wearing my Hasbro space helmet and driving along with my hot-wheels cockpit kind of console thing.

I was taken to the ticker tape parade in N.Y.C a few weeks later.

Christ, these might be my oldest memories.

Not me. Relatively young phukker by those standards. Fuck you boomers for not letting me be an intergalactic space marine b/c you wanted cheap labor and a place you could eat General Tso's chicken. Greatest generation got followed by a joke. At least you didn't believe in squirelkins and shit. Why the fuck do they call me a millenial? I'm in my 30s...

Yep, I watched it. I was 8 and the whole family and a couple of neighborhood kids were watching it at my house.

I watched all the vids a couple decades later, I love that stuff. I can't wait to go back.
